Built in 1890 on the two top floors of the Thatcher Bank Building, made of red brick and white flagstone on the corner of Main St. and Center, where now stands the Wells Fargo Bank. George W. Thatcher, Sr. believed that it would add to the significance of the building. A band and orchestra utilized the building and performed inside the theatre and throughout the state. It had the seating capacity of 800, and was
considered modern for its time with steam heat, indoor plumbing and electricity. It was part of the vaudeville circuit. The railway through the valley made it easily accessible for traveling operas, concerts, plays, vaudeville shows, and movies. In 1906 alone there were 66 different programs in the theatre. The Thatcher Opera House burned down when a fire started in the basement of an adjacent store and quickly spread to the opera house in April 1912. Newspaper headlines stated “WORST FIRE IN CACHE VALLEY HISTORY”. In smaller print to the right was the headline of the sinking of the Titanic, which had over a thousand deaths.
