There were signs of change Tuesday at the Ellen Eccles Theatre. Literally.
After several months of having a broken electronic marquee sign on Main Street in Logan, crews installed two new "rainbow wall" video displays on the entrance of the theater. The signs are expected to be activated today, and theater officials said they're excited about the opportunities they'll offer.
Cache Valley Center for the Arts Facility Manager Stephen Pelletier said the signs would enable the theater to advertise events and display community information in full motion.
"It'll be a lot more than time and temperature," Pelletier said.
The old sign, which was more than 10 years old, was built as a prototype for a new type of sign that never went into commercial distribution. Because of that, Pelletier said, it was impossible to find parts to repair the sign, and seemingly simple tasks such as replacing light bulbs took hours to complete.
Pelletier declined to say how much the new signs cost, indicating it was relatively expensive, but said the new signs would have a long life span.
"It's going to last a long, long time," he said.
Pelletier noted that one of the more popular features of the old signs, listing the time and temperature, would remain.
